Engagement Shoot Style Inspiration

I love engagement photos because they're an opportunity to really reflect the couple's personality, sense of style and the things they like to do. But a lot of couples get stumped on what to wear for their engagement session. I created an inspiration board on Pinterest with styling ideas and tips to help couple's choose what they'd like to wear for their shoot. Here are some of my favourite Pinterest finds.

There really are no hard and fast rules for styling but here's a few tips.

One

First, wear something comfortable. And bring comfortable shoes to walk in! You're going to walk a lot and you must just end up climbing on things or lying on the ground. It helps to be able to move around in your outfit. Also, stuff a few key items in your pockets and leave your purse at home. I'll just end up carrying it for you anyways.

Two

You have to feel like yourself, and it helps to feel like the your completely gorgeous self so wear something that you makes you feel good! Go out and buy that dress you've had your eye on, get your hair done, or make sure you go do yoga that morning. Whatever will make you feel like you look damn good! You can be as fancy or as casual as you like, but I wouldn't feel like you need to dress really formally just because they're engagement photos. I really like it when you can recognize yourself & your lifestyle in your engagement session!

Three

Get together. The days of matching outfits are over (thank goodness!) but you should look like you're going to the same event. In fact, you might want to look like you've been shopping at the same store. Go for the same level of casual or dressy. Sometimes it helps to stick to a certain color palette like blue & grey so you're both wearing something in those colors, but you might each have another color thrown in there too. That way you look great together, without looking like your mom dressed you as twins.

Four

Details are kind of important here. Accessories like hats, belts, jewellery, ties, vests or cute shoes can make your outfit more visually interesting. Patterns, textures, or bold colors can also add interest. And layers are always, always, always a good thing. Not only do they add interest, but they're also great for our wonderful Vancouver weather.
